Sine Die

All things must pass, and this is no exception. This blog will stay archived here, but no new posts will be forthcoming, as I have moved my blogs to zeruch.net and vox.com respectively (the latter being the successor to this one).

Thank you folks. The ride continues.

Jo Beng's debut album

Jo Beng
P-Phonic Records 2004

While there are a few promising bits on this album --a riff here, a beat there, and occasionally an entire cut like I Told You So-- this is mostly a tepid retread of neo-soul lite with somewhat flat production and her vocals veer around too much in terms of focus: from sounding in a Erykah Badu approximation (like the aforementioned I Told You So) to a postive-vibe inducing slink to just somewhat faceless R&B.

I am not totally writing her off, just hoping that with time she will develop her sound into something more cohesive and distinct, as it is clear she has a solid vocal prowess and can work with a variety of idioms.

Channel's Future Unclear

Clear Channel, a firm I have nothing but virulent contempt for, appears to be trying to sell itself off, and maybe (although the article tries to paint it with a far rosier brush than I would have given CC credit for) there has been some irregularity in trading of CC shares lately. This would appear to be tied to the fact that their earnings are down and in at least one case have been downgraded as a stock.
